Why right cerebral hemisphere control left side of the body same thing for left one?

Answer:
It is a curiosity. In the spinal cord and lower brainstem (pons and medulla), both sensory and motor structures are on the same side as the part of the body they innervate. Then from the midbrain on up, sensory structures start to have this backwards, and in the cerebral cortex, it's almost all backwards. Somewhere in the evolution of these higher structures of the brain there was certainly a good reason for the switch.

It may have been when the colliculi evolved in the midbrain, the inferior one for hearing and superior one for seeing. The former receives input from both ears so we can locate where a sound is coming from. The latter is involved with locating something interesting visually and moving our eyes there. It's input comes mostly from the eye on the other side while it's output goes back to that side. So the left superior colliculus will see something interesting in the right side of the world and signal cells in the right side of the pons to drive both eyes to the right to see it better. There is then motor information that crosses back to the left to move the left eye to the right as well as motor information that stays on the right to move our right eye to the right.

In coordinating either of those functions for our two ears or two eyes, something had to cross the midline to make that work. For some reason the colliculi formed so the sensory information crosses the midline, then the motor information gets relayed to both sides, as it has to for us to turn well. I don't know that anyone knows exactly why that option developed as opposed to having only motor information cross.

Once the midbrain has crossed, it's easier if everything above that is crossed in the same way as the colliculi, which it is. So however it happened there was one event in evolution that crossed the nervous system at one level. Essentially everything above that is crossed. Essentially everything in the nervous system below that is on the same side as the body.

The corpus callosum just connects the two cerebral hemispheres. Connections between the cortex and lower structures have different names.
The neural connections all cross over at the corpus callosum (the "division" in the center of your brain).
Yes the wires do cross over to the other side. Since you are in the nut room look at where the nerve wires go under the two brain hemispheres. It all goes through the auto brain or the lower brain. When chemicals in the brain fluid are too high from erasing expectations the auto brain can access all those wires and you will be totally nuts too. Well now you know the rest of the story.

Why one smokes to avoid sleep .?

Answer:
u need 2 sleep
Maybe worried about something and can't sleep.
I think a test proved when tired smoking makes you more sleepy So I don't know. Some people cant sleep because of bad dreams side effects to some medications there for they will do any thing to avoid it smoking just fills in some time that's my guess. Nighty night off to bed now.
smoking is a stumuliant so it keeps you up longer. but i cant see it keeping you up so long to avoid sleep. you also need some caffeine pills or coffee along with those cigarettes
Cigarettes are a stimulant, and boost your heart rate for about 20 mins after finishing your last cigarette. Also nicotine increases concentration (im sure someone will argue with me on this, but i read it somewhere credible when i was in college and cited it in one of my papers).
Your question wording appears you are "smoking to avoid sleep." Is that the case? Or, smoking keeps you from sleeping?

Smoking right before sleep time or getting up in the middle of the night for a cigarette is the function of a physical addiction to nicotine and a mental addiction to the process of smoking.

Each person uses smoking in their own unique way. There is no easy answer to this. Only you know if you're "smoking to avoid sleep", as you put it, is because you are stressed about something or because you are a heavy smoker, or, both.

Jim DeSantis
Smoking is addiction, it has nothing to do with "Sleep" its two different things, don't mix them.

Why oh why did i DO this..??

when i was in primary school, i used to be a pretty quite child...i never had any stable friends and during lunch period i would usually be completing my assignments. i neither am or was ever bothered about "peer pressure"...it just does not happen with me - the what-will-my-friends-think thing. also, from the beginning of time my mother and i never got along-we just did not.
so anyways, when i was in 7th grade..i told the rest of my class that my mother tounge was russian(i'm indian and my mother-father-whatever else tounges are indian too)- for no good reason i did that.a lot of people asked me about it obviously and i told them whatever horseshit i could. i made frinds with this girl...who was more popular than i was- but thats not why i made friends with her...actually i don't quiet remember HOW we became friends but i DO remember that i told her i lived in the american ambessy and told her i was friends with this buch of american kids...then she wanted to become "pen-pals"
Answer:
You were in 7th grade. That's probably the main reason. That age is just goofy. Try not to let an early adolescent experience ruin your adulthood.
Sounds like you were sick of being invisible, so you said something to get someone's attention. I can understand that. Now, you've got to decide whether to stick with the facade, come clean, or run away. Your choice.
what??!
u wanted attention, lol and u got it
Truth is better than Lieing at any cost. If you want attention do good things not bad. I don't know if you believe in God or Satan but lieing comes from Satan. He is the father of lies and He deceives. Please tell the truth and do good, it always pays off better than lieing no matter what.
I think you need to get some real friends and not stay alone or by yourself. True friends will accept you for who you really are, you won't have to pretend to be someone your not. (((HUG)))

Why not try this for your depression?

Go hang out in the entertainment section of ByeDr.com, and read jokes and riddles instead of talking about how depressed you are all day. That may help.
Answer:
why not eat healthy, balanced meals, give up sugar and caffeine, and stop eating junk and processed food-- garbage in, garbage out.
I suffer from depression but I have never ask a question in ByeDr.com, only answered. If a section on this computer could cure me believe you me I would not be paying my therapist $150.00 a visit twice a week. You obviously are not aware of what the true definition of depression is. Obviously if someone is asking something here then they are typically extremely depressed are searching for answers and want to connect to others who suffer from it. You can do a google search and learn a lot. Jokes and riddles can be fun though. Life is not all doom and gloom but when a person is depressed one is not interested in jokes nor riddles! Have a great day~
I am so sorry to read this as it means your time will soon be here. There is a real reason socially for depression. You wouldn't say this if you knew the rules in life. Don't give up you are close to getting help too.
Firstly, why don't you find something else to do rather than continually criticise people suffering from depression.

Secondly: in a previous question, you mentioned that you yourself had taken an anti depressant - so stop being such a damn hypocrite!

Thirdly: we are not 'talking all day' about being depressed - most of us are online working on other things and answering the occasional questions to help others. The only person on this entire site who seems to be obsessed with depression is you - and frankly, you're getting really boring.
It seems you dont know anything about depression. When you're depressed, you feel nihlistic, everything is meaningless. Why would jokes and riddles help?
If it were so easy, then no one would suffer from depression. The trouble, is, that many people suffering from depression want to be happy. Yes, they want happiness. They want to get rid of depression and lead a happy life, but it's not so easy. It takes time. Jokes, riddles, or any form of entertainment seem tasteless to the person suffering from depression. They, however, may give momentarily relief but they don't solve the problem. Even people willing to fight it out can't make it so easily.

Thanks for your concern, anyway. Coming to ByeDr.coms and talking to people who understand your problem is very therapeutic.
Mmm. Perhaps you worded your question badly, but it would seem you don't really understand what depression is. Ironically, if you gave this advice to someone with clinical depression you would actually make them feel worse. They would then become more negative and spend more time talking about their depression. As people said below, when you're melancholic, a few cheap jokes aren't going to quench the bitter fire in your soul.
I hope u never get depre but if u do
or u already r, try what u just said and
then let me no if it makes u feel better.

Why must i always contradict my best friend?

We used to be best friends but now everytime she says something i find it a habit to contradict her. I'm trying to stop, but I think it is because I can manipulate her decisions greatly and also because i feel like i have some power. Any other reasons maybe?
Answer:
you merely see flaws in her thinking because you are both wired differently. I think it could be a good balance to have between the two of you. both sides of a situation are always weighed.
you feel inferior to your friend and this is an attempt for you to show her and yourself who's the boss. your own insecurities are messing up your friendships

Why ISNT She So MANIC when she's with her BOYFRIEND?

my sister whose been diagnosed for a year now, and is manic for these past few days, she's HORRIBLE, a MESS at home...she provokes many fights, she swears and yells, etc.etc. DO NOT SAY its an ATTITUDE problem its her MANIA , i know because this is the second time she's manic and WHEN she's NOT MANIC she is much much more respectful and decent to get along with

thing is even though she fights with her boyfriend of 4 years still , she went over there to his place and his parents house and my mom asked him if shes Hysterical there, since she is at home, he said no...

Although WE do spend more time with her when she's manic, because her boyfriend works and cant see her as much as we do, afterall we live with her and he doesn't ..
so WHYYY is she only so very baddd to us?
does she hate us? and its not like she's ''normal with her boyfriend'' shes just more ''toned-down''
Answer:
I can relate, sometimes in this weird world we live in; it's easier for people with issues to blow up on Loved Ones rather than an outsider. Why? I don't know, maybe because in their subconscious mind they realize that immediate family will always be there.
It could be because she knows he respects her and loves her no matter what. Like she thinks that no matter what happens he'll always be there for her. I'm bipolar and i find when I'm with my boyfriend i feel a lot more secure than with anyone else.
She may not even be aware of it, but she will be meaner to the people she loves most. Many theories on this, but usually it's because she knows you will always be there for her. Maybe eventually her boyfriend will see how she truly behaves during a manic episode. You may want to talk to her doctor about what you should do during a maniac episode.

Good Luck.
Hi:

See my post on your first question on this jerk boyfriend.

Be Well
When you lock someone away to help them "get better", you are only making them worse.
You are taking someone with a manic disorder and placing them in a situation they have no control over and forced to psycological disection by people she doesn't know or is uncomfortable with.
She probably got better simply becasue that was the only way out of the hospital. If she goes with the program, she is out in 30 days and labled cured, until the next manic episode.
If the meds have negative side effects, why force her to endure them for your or your familys self interest. Your sister can mange her mania if you approach her in the right way. You have to let her make the decisons about her care and what is within her "comfort zone." This is the ONLY way she will "get better", and she may never live up to your standards, but you have to let her do it her way but not alone.

Why is yoga supposed to help depression and anxiety?

I've read somewhere that it's supposed to help. So what is it that it does? How does it differ from just stretching and trying to relax?
Answer:
i know my answer is going to be weak. but oh my gosh the first day i've tried yoga it was amazing. i've never been so relaxed before. i've found that since i've stopped it i've gone back to being moody.

i got this from wiki:
"For people with heart problems, studies have shown yoga to help people young and old. Specifically, yoga seems to promote heart health in several ways, including regulating high blood pressure and improving resistance to psychological stress.[1] Yoga also has the potential to buffer against the harmful effects of bodily self-objectification as well as to promote embodiment and well-being[2]
For people with back problems, studies have shown yoga helps physically with strength, flexibility and endurance. Yoga also helps create relaxation through the breathing and meditation techniques employed, which has been shown to help people better proactively manage a chronic pain problem like back pain.[3]"

edit: here http://www.yogajournal.com/newtoyoga/820...
If you read up on Yoga, it is healthy for body and mind. The different poses are generally for different parts of the person.

Check out Yoga at:

http://www.about.com

Type Yoga in their search box (upper right corner), I think you'll be pleasantly surprised at the wonders of Yoga. :)
Oh yes definatley, anything positive usually helps. It really helps to relax your mind and call all those racing thoughts from anxiety.

Why is this?

I always do stuff like normal people but whenever i do it i get a strange feeling that i have already done this... same place... i notice the time is always 3 minutes off of what i am thinking so can you guys help me?
Answer:
You are living in another time, either that...or you can control the past of future. If you want this to stop completely, try talking to a phsycic. They can help. If you want to control them, try to practice going back in time, and going further in time. One power leads to another. Embrace the gift.

-Azooga-
That is deja vu. Fairly common to one extent or another. I have experienced it some myself. I am told it can be caused by some chemical actions in the brain. If it is bothering you a psychologist should be able to proscribe something that would help.

From personal experience I know it can be disconcerting. I do not have it very often anymore and it never got so bad I saw a doctor. OTOH, I didn't know it was treatable until several years after its peak.
Sometimes I have the same. By me it is that I dreamed it before it happend.
I don't think that you can do something about it.

Why is there so much prejudice against those taking antidepressants?

Taking Lipitor for cholesteral or Nexium for acid reflux is perfectly acceptable. But tell some people you are taking antidepressants, and they think you are either a wacko or are trying to make your life easier by taking "happy pills."
Answer:
My wife of 21 years suffers with Bipolar. She must take a number of meds to deal with this disease. I have witnessed several occasions where she has shared this with others and been ostracized because they have prejudice's against people with mental illness. I have severed tie with my own family because of comments that were made by my mother. I have stood beside my wife for all those year because IT IS A DISEASE just like diabetes and cancer etc etc. I do not know why these folks choose to be prejudge against mental illness but I would assume that it is because for centuries people that suffered with these debilitating mental illnesses were considered crazy or worse possessed . It is a shame because so many of these people are often very smart to the point of genius .In the past several years I have seen the tide change because people are starting to realize that these illness are just like any other illness
because some people think depression is all in people's heads. these people seem to have never meet someone that actualy needs to be on pills.
Fear and ingnorance. Plain and simple.
Becasue most people are judgemental.
there is nothing wrong with taking pills. i used to take them and not anymore they did me great. ineeded them and they helped. so people that think about about them are wrong.
They don't understand and they are afraid of it and could be just closed minded
I guess i see it differently because the first thing i wanna know is "What are you depressed about? and what caused you to get to this point?"..I would ask a million and one questions to better understand why u r taking them and what happened to get you to that point....Some people arent as understanding, i used to be that way but then i feel im stronger than most people and then i had to reanalyze and say well u know what everybody is different and react to certain life situations differently..an open mind is a wonderful thing....Be Encouraged
I think a lot of people look at mental illness as a weakness where they don't necessarily with things like high cholesterol.
The world is full of judgemental people unfortunately and people get all judgy when they can't relate. Someone who's never been depressed or has only had mild depression just can't understand why pills would be necessary.
Because it is a new and pretty much unknown drug. Not that it is bad or good just different. This happens a lot with drugs but as soon as it is more acceptable in society and more people are seen using it then it will all cool down.
there's prejudice against those taking antidepressants? really? that's an open topic of conversation even in places as "formal" as in the workplace where i live... what meds are you on? oh, i'm taking prozac, you're on paxil?

who's prejudging? i'm not to be written off as "ignorant" here, i am sure there are some backwards red states that will call anything "out of the norm" bad, evil, sinful, blah, blah, blah, but not here in CT! antidepressants is the LEAST of people's prejudices here... it's actually quite commonplace.
It might be to do with fear. If we admit that it can happen to anyone we admit it can happen to us any time. Most people probably want to think that the choices they have made keep them this side of depression
Maybe people want to believe that they are strong enough to fight depression if it happens to them - to admit that anti depressants are absolutely neccessary, even in some cases is to admit that some cases of depression can't be fought without medicine.
There might be an instinctive belief that the mind is under it's own control and in the case of a healthy mind it might have positive effects to maintain that belief.
There's another reason that I think is more positive but harder to describe. It has to do with not reacting as if you are discussing an illness because you unconciously believe you are helping the person maintain the positive perspective neccessary to recover. This might might be perceived as "it's not a proper illness so you're not really ill so you must be a bit wacko or trying to make your life easier".
They are ill informed about mental health. People do not understand, until it hits close to home. It upsets me how people treat people with mental health issues. I took my neighbor to the ER, She was real sick. The DR. treated her like it was all in her head. I was so angry with the Dr. My neighbor ended up having a kidney infection. If she would have been by her self, I believe she would not have been treated.
Pure and simple ignorance, these people must think that you just go the doc and ask for them and get them, they don't understand what has gone on before these drugs are prescribed and every other avenue hasn't been explored first.
It makes people uneasy. They don't know why you are depressed and so they don't know how to approach you, so they don't upset you in any way. It's a little stressful for them since they have to deal with something they don't know how to tackle. So I'm not sure it's all prejudice.

***Maybe to some it reminds them of their own inner-struggles and so they don't want to know anything about other people's problems? I don't know..
I've been wondering that myself. A person can go through 2 weeks of depression and get over it, good great: wouldn't wish depression on anyone. For some of us the depression continues or it has been with us a children. The snap out of it attitude. My snap out of it friend is now going through something is not able to snap out of it and is on antidepressants.
HI.

I don't agree that there is "so much" prejudice. At least I haven't noticed this. I think most people do understand it if you take antidepressants - and see it as other types of medication.

With the few who do think you are 'wacko' or they are 'happy pills' - will not know what your mental health problem is or what anti-depressants are.
With TV ads for drugs (antidepressants) on all the time, celebrities talking about their depression and recovery using drugs, I don't think there is much prejudice any more.

I do, however, have a problem with the medical profession because when I was ill (not with depression), all the doctors and specialists I saw offered me antidepressants FIRST, without ever running any tests! I was not depressed, but I had a serious problem with both my endocrine system and anemia. IF I would have taken antidepressants like the first doctor offered, I probably would have died within 18-24 months.
Thanks to all these doctors messing around offering me drugs, it took me 9 months to get a proper diagnosis. And during those 9 months, my condition worsened.
Ugh! I know! Remember the whole Tom Cruise thing? He attacked Brooke Shields and the use of antidepressants in the interview. I'm including the link just in case you haven't seen it! It answers your question! Prejudice against antidepressants comes from people that think like Tom Cruise! He thinks that some good, old exercise and healthy eating will rid a person of depression. Also, he doesn't think it's a chemical imbalance. He believes that antidepressants mask the true problem that lives deep down in a depressed person's soul. He claims that once we find this true problem, we'll be cured! I don't agree. We're not glib, Tom. Psh!

Why is there a rise in extreme violence in psychiatric hospitals?

http://www.thenewstribune.com/news/local...
The News Tribune Drugs might breed violence attacks on staff rise at Western State Hospital M. ALEXANDER OTTO
May 28th, 2007

Violence has been a growing problem at Western State Hospital for years. If present trends continue, one in four of the Lakewood mental hospital's more than 1,700 workers can expect to be assaulted by a patient in 2007, according to the state Department of Labor and Industries.

For years, hospital administrators have blamed the violence on familiarcauses: not enough staff members, not enough money and increased societal violence that leads to the admission of more-violent patients. But they don't have the data to back up those assertions.

A News Tribune analysis of drug-prescribing trends at Western since 1999 finds another possible factor: Western is giving more patients psychiatric drugs with side effects that can include extreme agitation and aggression.
Answer:
whatever
there could be many factors, for example in the UK care in the community is a big thing it means there is a lot lot more people that would normally have been sectioned out in the community. the majority are fine upstanding people with problems like myself but the few that slip through the net are dangerous and really should not be aloud to roam around doing as they please.
I do agree that there is many new meds that could also be having an effect on the increase I have had a couple of anti-psychotics that have drove me to a crazy place in my mind.
then there is the increase in drug (illegal) use and the long term effects that has had mental on people. all this mind bending drugs that the young people think are great if they could spend a day looking around a mental hospital full of people that have taken them and now live through what they do maybe it would stop them and make them think before taking the next pill or the next hit.
My opinion. I think it is the new drugs. Even for the "normal" person, I think a lot of the older drugs would work just as well, if not better than the newer, very expensive drugs. These new drugs are not as tried as the older ones. By using these new drugs, we are just supporting the drug companies--like we are supporting the oil companies. lol Personally I do not think the doctors are getting a kick back but some people say they are so I don't know but if they are, doctors would naturally use the newer drugs. Also, they have to believe that the new drugs may be more beneficial when in fact they are proving to not be. (but will they believe that the older drug was better or do they even care?) The new drugs are proving to have serious side effects.

Why is the treatment of depression a matter of trial and error? What's different about?

treating depression or anxiety from a physical illnesses? Is the treatment the same (trial and error) with other mental illnesses?
Answer:
Partly because psychology is not an exact science. unlike other fields of medicine, where they can do lots of research, the brain and emotions can not be measured.
when you have a physical illness, like a broken leg, they know what is wrong and causing you pain. But when you have depression or anxiety there is no exact way to measure it so it is just trial and error.
Sometimes even with regular medicine and health it can be trial and error as well. Take Diabetes for example, the doctor has to try different types of meds to see which is best for your specific type of diabetes.
And yes with most other mental illnesses they have to use the trial and error method.
Yep, it is.

Medication is trial and error. Therapy isn't. After you stop treatment, only about 20% of people who took meds don't relapse. About 80% of people who did therapy stay cured. Its about changing the way you think instead of just treating the symptoms. In additon, therapy has no side effects.

For example, if you had a limp from an injury, and you continued to limp, eventually it would be more comfortable to limp, even after the injury had healed. They could give you medication to make the pain go away, but that dosen't solve the problem. You need physical therapy to fix the limp. See what I mean? Its fixing the problem instead of masking the symptoms.
Depression treatment is trial and error because not all medications work the same for people. For example, on anti-depressants, some people gain weight, while other people lose weight. Everybody has a different reaction to medications and some people are more susceptible to certain chemicals than other people.

When depression is a symptom of another illness, the illness must be treated in order for the depression to lessen.

Most mental illnesses are difficult to treat, because the treatment involves medication that people may or may not respond to. This goes for other illnesses or problems as well, because some people get pain relief from motrin, but not tylenol with codeine, which is stronger.

People's individual body chemistry determines which drugs they reacts to and how strongly.
Treating physical illnesses is often a trial and error process, as well, though there are some general guidelines as to what is most likely to be effective (e.g., antibiotics are typically likely to be effective for bacterial illnesses, but a given patient may respond better to one particular family of antibiotics than to another).

Similarly, treating psychiatric illness is often a trial and error process, though there are some general guidelines as to what is mostly likely to be effective (e.g., SSRIs are likely to be effective for depression, but a patient may respond better to one particular SSRI than to another).
Partly it's because even psychiatrists will admit they don't know exactly how the anti depressants work. For a good discussion of this, get 'Feeling Good' by Dr David Burns; you need the revised, updated version.

In addition, people's responses to anti depressants vary so much; you could ask ten people who all took the same medication, and probably get ten different responses!
I have both and think medicine save me from going nuts know I have my mind uncontrolled
The hardwiring in the brain differs from person to person. Accurate diagnosis is difficult do to a lack of completely objective tests.
Unfortunately, mental illnesses are all trial and error because everyone's psyche is different and one medication may work for one person and not another. There are also similarities from illness to illness so it could be possible to be diagnosed and treated for something and then later they determine that it is something else and have to begin treatment in another way. Just like ADHD and bipolar. There are many similarities and many differences and it is hard to judge sometimes.
different people with different diagnosis respond to different meds and sometimes it takes awhile to get the right drug/combination to relieve the symptoms
It is very difficult to treat because with mental illnesses, your nerotransmitters in your brain can be messed up, seratonin, dopamine, epinephrine, adrenaline, and one or a mixture of them can be messed up, so they have no tests to measure how much or which one is lacking, so they try different meds until one or more suits you and you start feeling better!
I have found that simple anti-psychotics and mood lifters are really doing more harm than good; I know that Natural Medicine has had better effects on mental cases and because it is all natural, it doesn't have side effects as most meds do. New Sun carries a full line of medications for anxiety, depression, etc. You should check out the link below for more info.

Why is suicide said asif it is a crime?

people say "commited suicide" asif it were against the law ,but it is your own choices and your own lyf. If animals were suffering we would put them down thats not against the law, so why is it for a human?
Answer:
it is a crime
against the law
however
if successful
what is the gov gonna do?
but if unsuccesful
mental hospital
Humans are not animals. Humans have souls. Animals don't.
Because it's the same as murder. You are still killing someone. It just happens to be yourself.
suicide is against the law. There is actually a law against it. The ending of human life is not allowed in our culture (unless you are an unborn baby... don't even get me started).
It is a crime. In most states it is against the law. Of course, if you're dead, you're not likely to be arrested and prosecuted.
I think the reason is because you can get help for the condition as animals cant really talk with vets about their problems. Its important to go through each option before thinking about suicide
ummm I don't know were you are from but trying to commit suicide is against the law!!

Taking another persons life would be murder.

Taking your own life is a sin.

All my opinion of course and I am entitled to my opinion.
It is against the law--it is murder, or attempted murder--even though it is of one's own self. If someone attempts suicide, and fails, they could go to jail--or at least to a mental facility for as long as the court says they have to stay there.
Probably because it's unpleasant and selfish and it hurts a lot of people -- either emotionally or financially or both.

I agree with the idea of mercy killings and generally respect the work of Dr. Kevorkian, for example: in an interview he was explaining how most people, when realizing they have the choice to end their lives, usually don't.

It's very perplexing as to why it would be illegal -- I mean, people die every day in this country through lethal injection/electrocution and it is government sponsored. A person should be able to do as they please with their bodies.
Because you can help a person get better and with their depression and problems. With animals, we can't tell how they're doing because they can't tell us how they feel. Humans can express emotions and so we know what we can do to assist them. They just have to tell us what's wrong first. Besides, suicide doesn't just kill them, what about their friends their families and etc.
Because we are quite a bit different than animals. . .
If what you are saying about animals is true, then we should not have any laws preventing anything.
Animals kill each other too. They don't get sent to prison, so neither should the murderer next door.Animals also eat each other and their young. . .
Comparing a human to an animal makes for a weak argument.
in all states, suicide is a crime. if it fails, you can be locked up in a mental health ward for up to ninety days, and sometimes longer, or until you are no longer deemed a danger to yourself. reason: the mental health community has decided that no one hwo is suicidal is normal by their standards of normalcy. the problem is, who gave them the right to make such a decision and set such an obviously self-serving, biased set of conditions for sanity?
First off if animals were suffering, why would you want them to live. That is very mean. Second off Committing Suicide is a crime in the eyes off GOD. In the eye of the law, you would have to seek help. If you commit suicide you will go to hell. It is the same and commit adultery.
when you commit suicide you kill yourself which means in gov terms you killed someone which was you.
Buddha (not trying to get religious) believed killing a living thing including yourself is the worst sin possible. B/c when you kill a person you end his/her life which means all the cells and organs dies so in a way when you kill a person you dont end a life but instead you ended billions of life. Commiting suicide is no different you may have chosen your own death but you ended all of your cells life and the one purpose of cells ( science belief) is to live. you cells work together for survival and killing yourself jsutr ends the purpose.
i don't even know if it is against the law in the uk. but i don't think it should be - like you i think it should be up to us what we do with our own life - why should others decide whether or not we should live when we are suffering? i think it should be the individual's choice.

No doubt i'll get a load of thumbs down for this, but this is my opinion and i stand by it.
commited suicide...committed doesnt always mean crime.i was committed to getting my work done on time.

see what i mean...commited simply means To do, perform, or perpetrate: commit a murder.
To put in trust or charge; entrust: commit oneself to the care of a doctor; commit responsibilities to an assistant.
To place officially in confinement or custody, as in a mental health facility.
To consign for future use or reference or for preservation: commit the secret code to memory.
To put into a place to be kept safe or to be disposed of.

To make known the views of (oneself) on an issue: I never commit myself on such issues.
To bind or obligate, as by a pledge: They were committed to follow orders.
To refer (a legislative bill, for example) to a committee.
There are many reasons for this. The first is that your own behavior affects the lives of others. Your decision to end your life has very real consequences on the people you leave behind on this Earth-- your parents, siblings, friends, coworkers, but most importantly, the people who emotionally and financially depend on you, such as your spouse and children. There is thus a general public policy against shirking all of your responsibilities by taking your own life.

Furthermore, these actions often times affect society at large. This is because many attempts at suicide result in nothing more than failed attempts. For example, the person may have hesitated the second before he squeezed the trigger. The result is that instead of instant death, the person is still alive, paramedics are summoned, and he is rushed to the operating room for hours upon hours of brain surgery. This person should be forced to compensate society for the harm he has caused them. Not just the financial costs per se, but the fact that he took up a hospital bed when other people may have needed urgent care.

Anyway, just because something is your own choice, done with your own body, and involving only the actions of consenting adults doesn't mean that our government cannot regulate it. Prostitution, Gambling, Bigamy, Polygamy, Gay Marriage all fit this category, yet in most states these institutions have been outlawed or allowed only in limited circumstances. The public policy here is that the state may proscribe any behavior that it considers to be "immoral."

Yet there is still one additional reason why the state may criminalize this. That is because (as certain political persuasions believe) the state has a duty to further the best interests of its citizenry; and often times, the citizenry do not know what is in their own best interests. So for this purely paternalistic reason, the state has outlawed suicide, adopting the view that if a person were to choose to take their own life, this would not be in their own best interest.

I hope this helps.
~Because it is murder, I know it's silly. We put animals out of their misery, why can't we do that for each other, legally?
Some people will say, it's because someone has to clean the mess up, it has nothing to do with that. The people who end up cleaning up the mess decided to be in that profession, and I'm sure they know it was in their job description.
This wouldn't happen if we were allowed to choose. I've wondered about his for a long time.~
I think the term "committed suicide" comes from the era when it WAS a crime in the UK and if one survived a suicide, you could be prosecuted and imprisoned. The 1961 Suicide Act decriminalised suicide, but was intended to ensure that anyone attempting suicide was understood to be mentally ill and provided with immediate help.

From what I can find on the internet, it seems that all states of the US retain a criminal law against suicide, but none actually prosecutes people who try to take their own lives.

The issue about putting animals down gets us into a separate debate, which is about ASSISTED suicide - i.e. you are not doing it all alone but are helped by someone else. This is currently against the law just about everywhere, although some countries don't in general prosecute (Netherlands, Switzerland) so long as the assistance falls within very strict boundaries. The difficulty seems to be in the attempts to word a law which would be foolproof - i.e. ensuring that people who genuinely and for 'good' reason (eg suffering a terminal illness) want to end their lives are enabled to do so, without cases such as those where OTHER people want someone gone, and put pressure on them, slipping through the net. It just isn't seen the same way for animals, even though people DO get their animals put down for their own convenience.
Hi,

I agree with 'pullthetrigger', i am from the uk and I don't think it is actually illegal and in my religion you don't no go hell either. Yes you end a life, but it's yours to end, why should you suffer on. I am shocked that it is against the law in the USA actually. Most people answered saying that humans can ask for help, so unlike animals they can in some respect "get better" but that's not always the case, talking, medication etc doesn't always end mental pain and what use is sticking someone in an institution to remain in pain the rest of their lives...is that not just plain cruel? Perhaps i come from a biased view point and i know i will get many thumbs down, i am sorry but it's only my opinion as being someone who has been suicidal..not actually committed or attempted it...but wanted to.
Animals don't have the choice to be put down or die..unless when they walk out on roads, that is what they are doing..who knows. Humans are different and i am not saying suicide should be condoned but i don't think it should be against the law were someone in so much pain that dying seems the only way out, gets punished if they are not successful instead of helped properly (which doesn't always mean sticking them in a 'mental home')

some of the answers here made me abit mad, so i am sorry to anyone who is offended by my answer but i had to comment!

best of luck xxxx

Why is my memory really bad?

I am 34, left handed, haven't read many books because I can't remember what I read and I work on PCs for a living and as a side business. If I have hands on experience with something I can remember it better. If someone tells me something one time, I will not remember it, no matter how focused I am. It is very frustrating and I've told all the people in my life to no avail.
Answer:
Are you eating a well balanced diet so your brain is getting the nutrients (vitamins and minerals) it needs for the brain to function properly? Are you getting enough exercise? Are you depressed?

Are you on any medication that could cause some of this? Are you under a great deal of stress? Are you getting enough sleep?

Anemia (low iron) can cause memory problems so you might want to be sure you are eating iron enriched foods.

A thiamine (B1) deficiency can also cause memory problems.

Flax Seed capsules, Vitamin E and C are all good for helping the brain and the heart to stay healthy.

It's a proven fact that reading and mind games can help sharpen the mind so even though you may not enjoy reading, you might try it for a while and keep the grey matter "exercised". Buy the puzzle books, especially the logic puzzles, and work to improve brain function, too.

You might also want to go for a physical and have some blood work done and try to find out if everything is ok there. And you might want to talk with a nutritionist after that and get guidance on eating proper foods to help keep the brain healthier.

The brain is like any other part of the body, if you don't use it, you lose it and it must be fed properly.

You can also check out the link below and see if you can find some answers here and go to their forum and discuss it with others.

I have what they call "brain fog" from Post Polio Syndrome and Chronic Fatigue so I feel your pain. Hope you can get some solutions and overcome some of this.
I guess we're just doomed to this curse.
I have the same problem and im only 17!
do u smoke pot? that could be the reason why u don't remember cause that is how i am
weed.
I am left-handed, and most of us lefties learn better by doing. It's the way our mind works. There are several medcines that can improve your memory. If you pay special attention to details, you are more likely to remember the big picture. I take fish oil tablets, and they claim to help memory. Try getting more blood flow to brain. This also helps with memory function. It's nothing wrong with you.
To some extent, memory is variable from person to person and worrying about it is the best way of making it from bad to worse.

Keep a small note book or keep a small memo recorder (now you get digital makes which are small and hold many hours of speech). If you hear something important, it will thus be preserved for your use later.

Bach Flower Essences will help you probably. Look at the free online course at:

IF YOU DRINK OR USING DRUGS.THAT WILL SHORT YOU MEMORY LOST...
I told you the answer to this question already.
Hi, a lot of people have this problem, me too, try to go www.icandosystem.com, there u will find programs to improve your memory and lot of other thigs. Its very easy and quickly.
KittyKat above has some great answers.

The best solution for memorizing in my opinion is to use the memory systems. Scientists say that we never forget anything. All of it is buried deep in our minds, and our long-term memory is infinite. What you need to be able to do is create "handles" for the information that help you find it in your brain. Your brain is probably full of facts and information, you just can't access the information when you need it.

A mental handle can be created when learning something new by using mental association and visualization. These techniques are easy to learn. I recommend you get a copy of The Memory Book, by Harry Lorayne. I know you don't like to read, but really try to learn Lorayne's methods and I think that will change!

Why is my heart numb? why cant i feel my heart? is there any scientific explanations to this cause?

Answer:
do you see dead people?
I'm going to go out on a limb here....maybe, just maybe, there aren't any NERVES in your heart.
Everyone can feel their heart

Perhaps you're about to die

or maybe you're a Zombie
i cant feel my kidneys, but i dont think there is anything wrong with that.

sorry, but you will never feel your internal organs.
If you can't feel your heart - you are probably dead.

Really though, go to the emergency clinic if this is a sudden symptom. Otherwise go to your doctor and ask for an explanation.
I'm afraid i have some bad news.. You are dead.
Are you talking physically or emotionally?

Surely you shouldn't physically always be aware of your heart except for the beating (it is beating right?).

If you are talking emotionally then fall in love or be hurt by someone you really love - then you'll know it's there...
You can't feel your heart or other internal organs because you don't have touch sensitive nerves in those organs like you do in your skin.
By numb, I would expect you are describing the dreaded Mortendorferlinkincync disease. Scientifically speaking, you may be about to kick the bucket. But then again, it may be something you ate or a very real heart problem. 911 is just a phone call away-I wouldn't wait till you keel over. NOW!!
i know what you mean. i have been through that too... have you had anyone hurt you throughout ur life... i have and it is hard to get feeling back in ur heart... maybe u could try to do something like go to a revival at a church or ride a roller coaster so that u can stir up some kind of emotions inside of you. dont worry, i will pray for ur heart... : ). may God bless and keep you!

Why is my friend like this?

he smokes marijuana, and his short term memory is affected at times(can't remeber yesterday was a holiday etc..)but he is a virtual encyclopedia of facts and knowledge. Is he just naturally smart?
Answer:
Is your friend add/adhd?
If you do not realize but medical marijuana is great for add/adhd!! It is way better then the speed the doctors put people who have this on!

Some smart people have a horrible time shutting off there brain. Running around thinking all the time. It is nice to take something that just calms ones butt down. You should ask him if he is legal, if he is not why not?

BTW I have ADHD and medical marijuana let me sleep, thank god cause nothing else does!
got to get of the drugs
Yes I think he is just naturally smart and by his drugs he is putting his attributes to waste! Knowledge is Power not Drugs!
While the pot does effect his brain - he is also only concerning himself with what is important to him. It is said that Einstein did not remember his phone number because he could not be bothered memorizing something that could be looked up.
MICHEAL JACKSON!!!!!
Your friend sounds like he is ADD. ADD do forget things that is short term memory. They remember every thing that they read. ADD are very smart people. But it is sad, how many do start smoking pot. It slows down their thought process.

Why is my BIPOLAR/MANIC SISTER "TONED-DOWN" with her Boyfriend and his family?

it pisses me off because she acts very manic around us (me, mother and dad) and she tones it down when around her boyfriend of 4 years and his family...
why? does she like them more then her real family...
Answer:
maybe she is.

Maybe when she's around you (her family) her total history of bipolarisms are under a magnifying glass %26 her anxiety is way up.

if that answer makes no sense, i'm sorry, ask a therapist.. just ask that question, you don't need therapy for 6mos. to find out some other reasons.
Why do some kids behave better at school than at home? Why don't violent husbands beat people at work? Why do overeaters eat lightly in restaurants and gorge themselves in their own kitchens? She's terrified that if she exhibits symptoms in front of them that they will judge her.

Because she's only with them a set amount of time she uses extra effort to control her symptoms. It must be very stressful, and home is the only place where she can let down her guard. It's not that she likes them more, she's just trying much harder to impress them.
Actually, it's believe that the reason most bipolars "let loose" at home and can seem to control it better around others, is because at home, they know they're loved and can be who they are. They spend the time in the "outside world" fighting the illness to keep it at bay.
Then once at home, they typically let down their guard and fall apart from the effort of having to try to keep it together elsewhere.
This is very common.
However, if she's still really having manic issues, it sounds as though she may need med adjustments and should speak with her psychiatrist. They likely need tweaking to achieve more stability.
Hang in there, as mother of a bipolar teenage girl I know it can be really rough (though fortunately she's not an extreme case like some I've heard about).
Perhaps ask your parents if you can speak with a therapist yourself about it to help get some better understanding as well as to learn some coping skills?
Good luck!
She may have Borderline Personality Disorder (BPD) along with the BAD (bipolar affective disorder). It is possible to be suffering from both. People with BPD can be manipulative at times (in the case of acting one way with some people and another way with others) and can also go from happy to angry in a minute. Check out this National Institute of Health website for a good idea of what BPD is all about. It is treated with therapy, there is no medication for it.
http://www.nimh.nih.gov/publicat/bpd.cfm...
.
Be happy for her, especially if she is able to feeling normal, which is so hard for her. She probably feels love, and the endorphins are stabilizing her.
Please be happy, and learn to tell her you are glad she's happy, and she deserves this.
If your family and you feel this is a competition, maybe start planning a night were they come over for a movie or get a new trivia game. Hey family life is what you make it, if you are half as serious as bringing a positive situation to an inevitable one. Ask her and her boyfriend if they can come and what they would like to eat and drink. Better yet, ask them to bring something(surprise) food or game. That why you start a new family night for you.
Don't take it that way. She probably lives in great fear that they will reject her if they know about the mania.

I have a good friend who is Bipolar and he has developed powerful self control to try to hide it. It is very very hard on him and every now and then he dumps all his friends and changes churches because helpful people try to give him advice and he thinks they are too close to the truth and probably will reject him like his own family did.
Maybe her family is the source of her illness and she finds normalcy and tranquility with her bf's family
It's not that she likes them better, it's that she's less comfortable around them. I know that I try to keep from appearing ill when I'm around people who don't know or understand that I'm bipolar. It may seem unfair that you all have to tolerate her illness more than they do, but it's because she knows you'll love her anyway. At least, that's how I see it, being bipolar.

Why is mental illness seen as a weakness?

So many people look down on people with mental illnesses. I know that if it's severe enough it's a disability. But society looks at people suffering as though they should toughen up. People are under the impession that they're putting on an act for attention. My mother suffered from Mental Ilness for 17 years. It is no picnic, and I can't imagine anyone suffering needlessly.
Answer:
It is true, people with mental illnesses are looked down upon. I think our society needs to be more educated when it comes to mental illnesses. They don't look at it like they do other diseases. I don't even know if some people realize that it is a disease.

I sometimes wish my own family would be more educated. When I was first diagnosed with depression, someone asked me, "do you REALLY think you need to take medicine?" Someone else told me just to deal with it. Someone else told me to do something about it. So when I did go for help, this person still wasn't satisfied! I got to the point where I was suicidal, then they finally understood that something was really wrong! It's been a almost a year since that happened, and most of them are more understanding about it. There are some that I don't talk to about it, but that's my choice.

It is no picnic. I don't think anyone would ever pretend to have a mental illness to get attention. It's the most difficult thing to deal with, and I wouldn't even wish it upon my worst enemy!
I think people don't understand as it is not visible like bleeding or a broken bone. Also insanity is an easy way to make a character a villain or evil in movies. Attitudes are changing, but slowly.
although i totally disagree with viewing it as a weakness, i can understand how it feels to be living with severly depressed family members. from my own experience, it was the frustration of wanting them to feel better or at least try to see things in the light that i was so they could ultimately be relieved in some fashion. there's plenty of reasons for people to feel bad, it's obvious. but there's also plenty of reasons for people to feel good, and when the bad overwhelms the good, they're shutting off that part of their brains. I'm not saying they're doing that INTENTIONALLY. Definitely NOT.
like you said it's no picnic. i'm with you on that. but humans are not perfect, and yes, you could in some ways see that as a weakness. but we all fall short in some way or another, so i'm not sure why having a weakness is viewed negatively. it's reality.
I'm wondering whether those who consider mental illness a weakness do so out of fear of those who are different, which is based upon a lack of understanding.
We all have mental illness in some sort of way or another. I would never say that it is a weakness but I would say that it is a fight every day for some people, trying to coupe with every day struggles, life situations, just being an adult is heavy hard sh*t. People that look down on people for anything are lacking a lot for themselves and that is why they feel as though they are better than someone else, who maybe in a valley in their life. Mentally illness can be conquered with the right touches, meds, counseling, supportive familes and friends, all really make those vallies turn into mountain tops
Society is funny. It's hard to accept anything outside the scope of their understanding. Mental illness is everyone problems because it's mainly the ones who believe thier sane to be the crazy ones. Their afriad to admit their shortcomings.A person who is in denial are the dangerous ones. Were a society of last minute ie. something has to happen for change to occur instead of providing what's needed because it's the right thing to do, caring, housing, acceptance, food, universal medical care, empathy, help etc.
People's track record on physical illness isn't much better, from leprosy to things modern people say about those with bad backs or fibromyalgia, many painful conditions, or addictions, as if that's always the addict's fault for ever having started down the road to addiction.

Some of that is fear. Some of that is how people love oneupsmanship to boost their own self-esteem. People like to pretend they control their lives. There's some truth to that, but many things can come along to show that is not the case, any sort of illness, accident, unemployment, death of a loved one, natural disaster, .

I hope people's attitude will improve as the genetics of personality and mental illness becomes clear later this century. Who knows? Maybe those who love too little will finally be looked down on as much as those who love too much. Or maybe it will be clear that everyone lives in a glass house.
yes i aggree we get a bad press a tough time
You make a very good point about people looking down on others that have mental illnesses. I believe that if someone has a mental illness that they're a lot better then me. They have to brave what people throw at them every day of their lives. And they have to overcome obstacles to do daily tasks that we take being able to do for granted. In my opinion having a mental illness makes you a stronger person.
Seeing mental illness as a weakness varies from culture to culture(my opinion). Attitudes really need to start changing very quickly. I.E Virginia tech---- We need to stop ignoring the issues that we see when family members or friends start suffering. You wouldn't let a family member bleed to death or watch them suffer so ignoring the issue would be just like that the problem is getting them help that is something that needs to change.
years ago people also looked down on the physically handicapped, now it has got much better... we can only hope the same thing happens when people have more knowledge of mental illness

Why is manic depression referred to as Bipolar?

Answer:
What better question for me to answer! I am bi-polar! I have researched this.

Bipolar is a way to describe the way mood shifts from one end of the affective spectrum (say manic) to the other end, or pole, of the spectrum (lets call that one depression). Bipolar's full name is actually Bipolar Affective Disorder.

So to recap...

One pole is depression
One pole is mania
The correct prefix for two is Bi

hence bipolar!
I hate this f*cking disease...
2 opposites.im guessing.
because the psychologists hate scientists and wanna be more professional!
dont know because they are two different things.

bipolar: most deal with long periods of up or down.

Manic Depression : you litarly go up and down in moods very quickly to the point of it becomes manic..one second your happy and the next your not and your down in the pit of dispare.

so it's someone not refering to them in the correct way
Because it is opposite ends of the spectrum. Manic state is a High, depression is a Low. Polar Opposite. They go from the Highs to the Lows and back.
Because the person麓s mood swings from one pole to the next. It has two sides, euphoria and depression.
when you're a manic depressant, you often switch from one extreme of emotion to the other, hence "bi" (two) "polar" (poles).
It is only one form of depression, not applied to all. called so because it is classed as a personality diorder, like multiple personality syndrome, hence bi-polar, it means 2 extremes (i.e of personality).
because there are intense periods of ups and then sudden crashes in to depresion.
a maniac depression is the same as bipolar bbecause when you are bipolar you freak out by being happy one minute and turning into a total butthead!
2 poles, your "manic" pole/phase where you are extremley energetic etc., and your "depression" pole/phase where your are very depressed, the bipolar just refers to 2 opposite extremes
because they are at two different sides of the spectrum... bi meaning 2 and polar referring to the different polar regions in the world north pole and south pole.

manic being overly excited and depression being extremely sad, two different end of the emotional spectrum.
The reason is that the manic part, or mania, is the high pole, and the the depressive part, or depression, is the low. Bipolar refers to the two extremes that bipolar people tend to experience in life, either high or low.
Like the two poles. one is far from the other, extremes. The high then the low. The up and down of the mood swings are "Poles apart."
Bi means two BTW.
Because manic depression is when you have episodes of mania (hyper, happy, extreme high) and depression (sadness, hopelessness, helplessness). Bi meaning 2.polar refering to poles.one pole (extreme) to another
i just googled your question and there is no real clear answer.
just. one side of the brain is not happy with the other side.
and even that answer wasn't very clear,
No when my husband was told he was bi polor the doctor brought up manic depression as well..
i believe manic depression your constantly depressed..but my husband is bipolor so i cant confirm that

where bi polor..you get "manic" and your mood goes from..happy as hell to..depressed and angry in the snap of a finger..and theres so many other side effects of being bipolor..such as over spending..and believe me..my husband spends when he gets manic..or losing sleep..but hes the oppisite he always has to sleep your best bet would be to go to webmd.com and type in both to find the actual differences
I'm not sure that even the people that gives these diagnosis knows... I believe they just put these "labels" out random to hand out more medication produced by billion dollar medication companies... Think about it!
Think of the North and South Poles as being "polar opposites",similar to the intense mood swings of a manic
depressive.ergo bi (two) polar. In manic depression,
there is either a wildly excited state or a very down ,depressed state, making that person extremely unbalanced.
2 different things.. I have depression.. but sometimes I do feel bipolar.
It's the same thing. Manic Depressive Illness was used in the past, "Bipolar" is a more modern term for the same thing. They probably changed the name because few became full manic, rather they were hypo-manic so it was a misnomer from the start.
There really is NO difference between the two; bipolar is a later term and I would not doubt because it is easier for the general public to say aka shorter; i personally dislike the latter term and refer to the former when asked about myself.
because the condition produces such extreme mood swings from deep depression to manic that it is like the difference in the north pole and the south pole.
because bipolar consists of 2 phases.the part where u may be high or in old fashioned terms "hysteria"; then u usually come crashing down in2 a depression, hence the defenition: mani-depression

Why is Luvox specifically for OCD?

What is different about Luvox that makes it especially for OCD? I have Bipolar 1 and OCD and have had no luck with any of the meds I've taken in the past. Right now I am loading up on Abilify and Lamictal and in 1 month the Doc says she is going to add Luvox. What makes it different from other meds?
Answer:
I've been diagnosed with BP2/BDP and have done extensive reasearch in addition to seeing highly renound specialized psychopharmacologists and psychologists that specialize with mood disorders.

I hate to sound harsh, but your Dr. Sounds like a real pill pusher.

A good medication management plan should include the drugs that provide the best results at the lowest dosage. You shouldn't be adding drugs to your cocktail if you're not experiencing positive results with what you're taking now.

I'm not a Dr. and I won't try to diagnose you or pretend I know what you should take. But I've been through pill pushers and you definitely do not need to be on this many drugs from what you're describing.

If you want to talk offline, send me an email and we'll discus your history a bit and I'll tell you whether or not your MD is doing the right thing

altruist845@hotmail.com
I don't know why meds. react in one that doesn't in another but my Daughter has OCD and was breifly on Luvox and it didn't do a thing for her!

Your Dr. would know best.

Why is it.?

Everytime i go to these chatrooms called "Paltalk" in the "Teen" section, theres always these 5 little girls always laughing and picking on ppl. Making subliminal remarks about everyone. Or just laughing it and being like "SUBLIMINAL RUDE" like saying "GOD YOUR MEAN" then laugh at with their "online friends" when they try to diss someone. They've done it to me, but me being me and my "fast skilled thinking" and humor i bashed all of them so many times. I have a cyber friend and we always go on there and act like "pimps" we rub it in their faces about getting all the girls and how paltalk is so popular because us LMAO. It pises them off so bad, they dont say anything. Then there GUY friend is 25, he would call us "butt buddies and homos". After that the girls started repeating. Now i know one of the girls wasnt never like that. She used to always talk to me. Now its like she has to try to act like someone else.
Answer:
Sounds like the "Paltalk Teen" section must be a magnet for socially immature teens.

Why is it when I'm depressed I just want to be on my own, even though I know I'm my own worst company?

Answer:
When you are depressed you want to withdraw from social company. But this remark " I'm my worst company" makes me fear you may have suicidal thoughts. Talk to your parents, your family doctor , a minister priest or rabbi so that they can help you.
i guess u just want the solitude and the chance to sort things out. It's also really hard just understanding all the things that are happening to you all at this moment, so I guess it would be instinctive for a person to withdraw from everyone.
i have absolutely no idea but you are certainly not alone, for some reason all i want To do is lye in my bed and think, I go out and I just hang out for the time I get hojme so I can llie on my bed, even though I know that lieing there thinking is not going to make me feel any better, it really is ridiculous but you are certainly not alone. Maybe because you are depressed you just dont feel llike sociallising. For me i no longer like to socialise as i go out and see how happy and content everyone is and how they all have partners and are settled with there lives and i'm not and it just makes me realise what i am missing/
Depression has many of the hallmarks of an addictive disorder, with "lows" instead of "highs". In a sense, your staying alone to ensure your feeling doesn't change. You have to be stronger and get your butt up and go do something productive.
Many times, wanting to be alone is part of depression. If this is something that only lasts a day or two, then take the time to be alone. Sometimes, that's just what we need. However, if your depression lasts for more than a couple of days or if you constantly want to be alone, then you may want to seek clinical help, as you may begin feeling more and more depressed. Good luck to ya!
When someone is depressed, they often don't have the physical or emotional energy to go out and be with people and do things. I am going thru it now...I want to do things, and there are 1000 projects I need to do around my house, but I just don't have the energy. I am also fully aware that I automatically think the worst of myself and have a hard time seeing my strengths.
i do exactly the same and yes im also my own worst enemy but the reson why i do it is because i know that if i am depressed i tend to get highly volatile so im safer in my own company than in the company of others

Why is it when i have a break down i cant cry or breath?

any sort of depression can be tide over by faith in GOD and sincere prayer.

Your prayer is from your heart. Further You must have to understood the fact that God is present in our heart. This can be realised in meditation. Further we are the creation of our own destiny. As per Hindu sacred religion, we carry all good and bad deeds life after life. There is no end unless we pray for unification of self with the divineliness.
Hence there is always a possible way to complete mergence with God in this life by a simple and wonderful meditation
You need jesus. Or some really good stuff
Just get away, drive to the country, and relax.
You need to get counseling from a psychologist or psychiatrist. You are not going to get the help that you really need from those of us on YA, you need real assistance from a trained counselor and you may need to be on anti-
depressants.

Please ask someone for help, you are an emotional mess right now and need help immediately.

Go to a friend, a teacher, someone at social services, your local hospital or even your local church and ask for help. Do not struggle through this alone.

I wish you the best and will say a prayer for your health and healing.
Losing a best friend to an OD would certainly be overwhelming for anyone. I think you're having trouble breathing because you are upset and unable to let things out. Not being able to let things out can also be a part of cutting yourself - as a way to try to let things out. Your pain is certainly understandable. If you don't have somewhere you feel you can be completely safe it will be really hard to let go. You are not going crazy but I can imagine you sure feel like it. When I face a major stressor like that I don't know where my mind goes, it just goes. Going to take a bath was a good idea. I commend you for that. So, right now, what you need is a good action plan. Mostly that means getting yourself away from the things which make it worse and trying to establish a sense of safety. You may want to simply tell your boyfriend that right now he really isn't helping and you need some time alone from him if he can't be supportive of where you are. Remind yourself over and over again that cutting will not be useful. Remind yourself when you feel the urge that what you are really experiencing is a very strong desire to be able to feel something and get things out. So, it's important to find some way to provide an emotional outlet to your feelings - they are in there. Ironically, if they weren't so powerful you would be able to see them. Since it appears that crying or giving voice to them isn't working I would suggest something physical like writing or doing artwork. Both are excellent means of helping the process of getting the overload to stop from boiling over. The great thing is doing these also gives you something you can SEE. Write whatever you need, whatever you want. Scratch all over the paper if you want. The important thing is just to get something out, whatever it is doesn't matter. Artwork - I find collages work good for me, because I can't draw worth squat. You can even try just coloring. Anything that gets the feelings out through your body will help. You may very well find in the process that the feelings start coming. If they do, let them. You will feel much better if you can. Even though feelings feel enormous and overwhelming they never last forever and the release will find you feeling so much calmer. There are other things that can help release feelings - anger anyway. Screaming into pillows, ripping up phone books, having a temper tantrum in your bedroom. Do what you need to do. Just remember in the process that you are okay. What you are experiencing will end. It is okay and normal to be overwhelmed when awful things happen. Take care of you and be gentle with yourself. Find your favorite music, try your best to relax, and know that everything's going to be alright. It may not feel like it but it will be. Thanks for writing.
Kaylee -- When we have a breakdown is when we are so overloaded that our emotions spill over effecting how our mind works and how our body functions. We feel like one big blob with an overwhelmingly big emotion that has taken over our body, and it just doesn't make sense. Your problems tonight are real, and you need to be where people will genuinely care about you in your trials.

Why is it that when i sleep i always dream of the same thing often?

i also remeber them as if it really happened, at least twice a week. and its always the exaxt same scarey dream.
Answer:
The more you think of the same thing, the more you get the feeling that it is always there around and when you go to bed in that state, there is every likelihood that it will be reflected in the form of a dream when you are asleep! Diversification of thoughts may help you hit it away!
Someone or some message from an authority figure may have lead you to believe that setting aside your own wants or needs for what they think you should do is probably causing this repetitive nightmare.

What have you put on the back burner that means a lot to you? What goal were you intending on working on that made you feel excited about life?
You are traveling to an astral plane after you sleep. And some resident of your astral plane is making a monkey out of you and scaring the **** out of you.

Why is it that people tend to daydream?

Like, why is it that when it's very boring, you will find yourself just staring at something, not blinking, just thinking??
Answer:
Yes boring can cause day dreaming but a very hectic trouble like can cause it too. it seems to be a break from reality and I think it is good for you mind to take a break once in a while. As long as one know the difference in reality and daydreaming.
i don't think daydreaming is boring.people have deep minds and souls that they explore through day dreams.
There are three parts to our brains and they all serve a function. Daydreaming occurs because of melancholy is it is very natural. The lower brain gets into the action and puts the uppers to sleep. Remember all the wiring has to go through the lower brain to reach the spinal chord channel.
It's because we are unsatisfied with our current activity and desire something more exciting and interesting.

Why is it that I toss and turn all night and can't sleep during the night?

Yet when the alarm goes off in the morning, I'm ready to sleep and don't want to get up! I have a lot of worries at the moment. Does anyone else suffer this, and how do you get over it?
Answer:
You have a lot on your mind at the moment. Coping with the loss of your partner very hard. I don't sleep either, because of that.

When you are tossing and turning try writing down what is in your mind and putting it away in a drawer. Then think to yourself I will look at it tomorrow. Try listening to some chillout music to see if that helps you to relax. These are some of the suggestions I had made to me maybe they might help you.

I know what you are going through and it will take time for it to get easier, but we have to believe that it will.

Remember I am here for you whenever you need someone to help.

:-)))
TRY DRINKING A BOTTLE OF VODKA
it is mainly becayse we should not sleep at day for hours and hours together
well in a way you have answered your own Q. you cant sleep cos of the worries you have at the moment. try and sort out some of the worries and hopefully you will sleep better. try some relaxation or calming measures before you go to bed.
try not to worry too much about what the day has brought you..when relaxing try to remove all the problems and stresses of the day, pamper yourself to a therapeutic bath before sleeping, this will also help you relax. you have insomnia, so eliminate the stimulants that keeps you awake..as soon as you can sleep, your bio cycle will go back to normal.
I have had sleepless nights for God knows how long but my doctor put me on diazapam a few days ago and now I cant keep my eyes open day or night. I keep dropping off all day until about 5pm and then I am alert for a few hours and then sleepy again at 10pm. When I phoned the doctor to tell him what wa happening he said that it was ok and that my body needed the sleep and was catching up on what it needed.
Buy a decent bed it will help or get piss-d ha ha.
The main reason may be that you are overproducing adrenaline - the worry hormones - because of hypoglycemia. This is a nutritional disorder.
could be depression. mine is and I'm under treatment for it and things are getting a bit better.but your worries don't necessarily mean depression you should try proper sleep hygiene. it's not good to sleep through the day you'll just mess up your internal clock if you can't get to sleep keep yourself up and try again the following night at the proper time. Don't fight it either...if you can't sleep just get up and do something perhaps go outside if it's nice and go for a small walk. Don't get in bed worrying that you might not fall asleep just get in bed and close your eyes...if it doesn't work get up again and do something. Warm milk is a mothers remedy and it works because the tryptophane in the milk gets activated by warming and tryptophane helps the body in the creation of melatonin which is the sleep hormone. Valerian root works wonders too but it smells like stinky feet or like cranberries when they are stewing on the stobe. But go see your doctor so he can rule out depression and any other physical causes.
You have probably experienced this because of the hours the sun is causing.

The sun now sets at about 9:10, and rises at 5:30. If you are sensitive to the sun, this means you only get about 8 hours 20 minutes of sleep, when you should actually have 10 to 12 hours.

Therefore you want to sleep more in the morning.
Try a blindfold.
Your worries cause you anxiety which makes it very difficult to fall asleep at night. Its not uncommon as due to your worries, you suffer from insomnia. Also, your internal clock is off because your awake all night and your body is telling you to fall asleep in the morning instead of the evening. You should try doing something relaxing before you go to sleep like reading a book. The computer stimulates the brain so about 2 hours before bed time get off the computer so your brain will relax. Take a nice hot shower, settle down in bed and red a book. do this every night until it becomes a pattern and by doing that you will get sleep and this will also reset your internal clock.

I keep getting this problem a lot lately. I think stress causes it. You could go to bed at a decent time and as soon as your head hits the pillow your brain starts to get hyper and then you can't sleep the whole night. I work in a office and a couple of night ago as soon as I went to bed I was doing my computer work in my head. I spent the whole night (in my head) typing, merging cells, moving paragraphs etc. You name it I done it. Then at 7.00 am when it was time for me to get up, I had to force myself to stay awake. I was drained at work all day. I think I will have to go for a brisk walk in the evenings to help clear my head and to help me to sleep better.
i get like that too im on cali and im still awake, i can;t sllep either, i lay in bed and im like why cant i sleep. maybe ur stressing and u have a lot in ur mind becasue thats what happend to me, i stress way too much.
I agree with Jurplesm. The digestive system is the key to the whole body and you are probably lacking some important substance but you have more chance of landing on the moon than getting medical help because they know so little about the workings of this complex process
That's part of the lyrics for "Tainted love" by band Soft Cell

"I toss and turn can't sleep at night".

Yes it is anxiety/depression.

Off to the doctors with you if it persists.

Why is it that I have REALLY, REALLY messed up dreams EVERY night, to the point that I can't sleep ever?

I've had about 3 hours of sleep the past 2 weeks, no joke.

I have dreams where I climb 10 mile high mountains of jello.

Dreams where I see my girlfriend get raped and then go out and kill random people (this is a VERY graphic dream)

Dreams where I actually kill myself (also VERY graphic)

Dreams where I participate in genocide.

Dreams where I pretend to be someone else in order to stay alive (thereby condemning the person I pretend to be)

Dreams where I see the end of the world.

Dreams where I can read books and music (which shouldn't be possible)

Dreams from the past

Dreams from the future (maybe?)

Seriously, WTF!?
Answer:
What is going on in your life right now? Is there more stress than usual? I would maybe think about talking to a psychiatrist first to get something to help you sleep and second to break down what is going down.
What you should be asking is how to detach yourself from your thoughts and dreams so that you can see the world more clearly.
Here is how that is accomplished:

Why is it that i get upset for no reason at all?

I dont have any real problems or anything that bad in my life. I dont get it. Can someone please inform me?
Answer:
your bottling up your feelings, there's something you need to let out.
You could be taking things seriously that are not serious so try and talk to someone about it .
You may be subject to mind control programming, a CIA-created program. It'd put the feeling of upset (or other kinds) into your mind. So you'd start to feel upset. No more, no less. Suggestion-- you need to live with the feel and keep up with your life at the same time. After for a while, to be expected, you'd feel better.

ps: it uses microwave or electromagnetic wave to put feels in.

Why is it that I can switch from feeling so bad to comfortably numb so quickly?

Its like I can be feeling so bad and getting so many memories back to everything is "fine". I almost become a different person and feel stupid for having felt so bad. I feel like I invalidate my own feelings. I feel like I almost made up all the bad feelings but when they come back suddenly I realize Im not exactly making them up. I dont know what to trust when this happens all the time. It also makes it hard to know which part of me is real.
Answer:
I have bipolar disorder. I used to feel what you describe when my depressions started as a teenager. I would feel low for a day or two. Then the next day I would wake up and feel fine, wondering what had just happened to me. It's not quite like someone turned a switch and I was depressed, then turned it back and I was normal, but almost. And I reacted exactly as you describe. It was this strangeness of it that first made me see a doctor. She ordered a thyroid test, which was normal. It was a few more years before a psychologist told me this is what depression can feel like. The periods of bad feelings had gotten somewhat worse by then, with my contemplating suicide at least once.

A major depression isn't diagnosed until those times of feeling bad last at least 2 weeks, but there are lesser diagnoses like cyclothymia if one's moods are always shorter than that. Medications can help. Don't believe anyone who says they don't.

You may have other reasons than mine for what you describe. Maybe you get out of your head and into your surroundings and that cheers you up without the bad feelings being the genetic/neurochemical disorder that it is in me. The thing is that the content of my moods never has been fake, even if my moods are exagerrated by being bipolar. My moods are about romance, about successes or failures in other things, about how exciting or disgusting other people are, anything anyone feels moody about. I just feel it more intensely. So it's all real. It's all part of you. It's just the spotlight operator might overdo it in some of us.
See a doctor and don't beleive anything you read on hear.
i have this too. Life is weird and ridiculous. I don't believe in anything.
I experience this same problem. I can be so sad and then a few hours later I will be just fine. It makes it hard for me to deal with life because sometimes I am ok and sometimes I am really down. It might be good to ask your doctor about a mood stabilizer in addition to antidepresant.

Why is it that I am smarter when I get only a couple hours of sleep??

My brain just seems to work tremendously when I'm sleepy. . .
Answer:
You are probably running on high octane borrowed from your future. Let me explain.

You are not giving your body enough rest to produce the various chemicals it needs to function normally. So as a defense mechanism your body orders some emergency chemicals, which are produced rapidly in order to compensate this shortage. Thus kicks in Adrenaline and you find yourself wide awake and very alert.

You think you are functioning better than normal. But all that has happened is that your body has made, what it thinks, some temporary adjustments. Where as you apparently think that these adjustments can be permanent. Hate to tell you this but eventually this will catch up with you and affect your physical well-being. The old saying, "You want to dance? You have to pay the band," is very true. So do yourself a favor. Get some sleep.

Sweet dreams!
ur just like me
its prolly genetics
That's probably because you were in borderline pyschopathy or schizophrenia during those times. Most geniuses have some kind of mental abnormality one way or another, ie Vincent Van Gogh or John Nash
when our brain is about to sleep or is slept it makes random connections with the billions and billions or neurons this gives us the power to randomly associate different ideas and come up with a radically wierd new idea.
well i wish i was like that then!
I think it's a trait for survival.

When you have less sleep you are more vulnerable. So you get a burst of adrenaline to keep you sharp and away from the prowling tigers or whatever.

It's going to be followed by a crash, and I know that I have cycles where I can and can't fall asleep. Find the next cycle and go to sleep during it, it will pay off in the long run.
its not the fact that you slept. its how deep you slept. when you reach REM sleep you are in your rested and healing state. if you sleep 10 hours and wake up tired confused and cant seem to get anything done, probably didn't reach REM sleep. try making your rest time uninterrupted. turn phones off room dark maybe a candle for some relaxation aroma therapy, or even relaxation therapeutic music. try different techniques until you figure out what works best to get you to REM sleep and you'll be best rested and your brain will keep working tremendously. another thing..don't hit snooze. just get up. the teasing you brain for more sleep may make you more tired. this way you can have a tremendous brain day with less tiredness!
You might be a nervous type who can't function as well unless your inhibitions are down. When you're tired, you aren't functioning optimally, but if your optimal way of thinking is actually harmful, taking them out of the picture might actually help.

There's a limit of course. Do it for days or days on end, and you'll see that you really can't function at all.

Why is it so?

Why is there heaps of advertisement and stuff to help men or people in rural areas with depression in aus?
but there is none for people in the city, for teenagers or women?

Well, there is stuff to help, but it seems that everything advertised for men is free and stuff, why isn't it for people like me?! (me being a teenage girl)
My family can't afford me to get proffesional help.
I need help, but i can't find anything that i can go to which is free!
Answer:
You can visit your local health department. They offer free service and I am sure they can help you there. Most states have a mental facility that offers free service... Call them at least and tell them you need help... Best wishes.
Check out the Midwest Center for Anxiety and Depression.
They have a website! Lucinda Bassett is the founder.
God Bless!!:)

Why is it so tough to wet my diaper that my girlfriend puts on me?

Answer:
To heck with those that want to put you down for doing something they are afraid to try. I look at it this way, if you haven't tried it then don't knock it.

Now to answer your question, you were potty trained when you were younger and it is so ingrained in you to not wet yourself that when you have a diaper on and it is perfectly normal and okay for you to wet yourself, you can't.

It will take time to overcome an un-natural act, the act of holding in our urine when we need to relieve ourselves. Now that you have a diaper on it will take practice and time. Just force yourself to wet yourself. Put the diaper on and make a promise to yourself not to take it off until you are wet. Sooner or later you won't be able to hold your urine in and it will come out into the diaper.

One of the other problems is the thought in our minds that the diaper won't hold all we can give it. This may be true if you wait until the last minute to where you can't hold it any more but if you relax and let yourself go before that time then the diaper will more than hold it so don't worry. If you still have a concern, then don't be sitting on any furniture or anything, just stand up and do it. You might even try standing in front of the commode as if you were using it to urinate. It might help.

You will be surprised at the feeling when you finally do wet yourself, it will be hot on your skin, mainly because your urine is at core body temperature but your skin surface is usually cooler than that so you feel the heat from your urine.

Once you have managed to wet yourself a few times it will become easier and easier each time you do it until finally you will be able to do it without even thinking. Just relax and enjoy yourself.

Good luck.
Huh? Maybe cause you're too old to be wearing a nappy, and the logical instinct to use a TOILET keeps kicking in!
oh a fetish how nice maybe as you are to old
If it makes you excited to be wearing the diaper that could be it. Men cannot urinate while erect, wait a while and cuddle, see if you calm down.
As far as other people judging you, nonsense, what two people are willing to do togetheer is their business

Why is it so hard for me to show emotion!?

you can say that im kind of heartless i dont cry for easy things i hate crying i think is a waste of my time! i guess im just cold hearted!
Answer:
You're not heartless! Something must had happened in your childhood that has made you disconnect, because people aren't born that way.
I would suggest this. I would go talk to a friend and just listen. Even if you don't agree or you have something to say, just nod and listen. REALLY listen to them, and see things from their shoes. This may help you.
You don't have to cry all the time in order to have have a heart. I do think you're wrong when you say that crying's a waste of time, because sciencifically it truly makes you feel better. When you cry, you let out this hormone (can't remember which one...), which makes you feel better. Plus holding stuff inside never works, and you eventually explode. (Believe me, this is true)
I would recommend if this affects relationships with other people, that you talk to a 'shrink' because they have the tools to help you reconnect. Think of this as a television. If it's not plugged into the outlet, the TV's not going to work. But if it is plugged in, it will work, with only occasional probelms.
Whether to show emotion or not, it is secondary. By your deeds, do show your kindness and helpfulness to others, and you will be loved for what you do. Emotion will come naturally later. God loves you, and you are precious to Him. God loves us by sending His Son to die on the Cross to redeem us from sin and qualifying us to Heaven. His deeds speak millions of volume. Come to Jesus with genuine repentance and faith, and your life will be happy and worth-living!
maybe you fear being hurt..

i dont like showing emotion cuz ts easier. it hurts less.. i dont have to answer questions.
-shrug-
its a mental thing.
i dont think your heart less... im the same way... for some werid reason i just sit there and i dont laugh when everyone else dose, i dont smile much, im hardly happy, and everyone thinks im angry and im really not that muchwhen people give me present i never show emotions even if i want they just dont come i dont cry a just anything but i do cry alot.. idk what to say life just hard and i dont deal with it good and i dont think you do eather i guess sorry if im not much help...
no, you're not cold hearted! it's hard to show emotions sometimes...hell, i didn't even cry once when i watched my best friend get burried at the age of 14, or when my pop-pop died...nope, i bottle it all up inside! but no, you're not cold hearted...everyone is different...

Why is it im scared to get to no people incase i get rejected by them? rejection terrifies me?

im 29 have had bpd, depression, low self esteem anger probs since 15, because of these problems ive never formed friendship or a relashionship with any girls...im incredably lonely, i live alone in my own flat.im in a waiting list for therapy

how can i overcome this problem?
Answer:
Hi Wild:

In my opinion you are afraid to get to know people or even get close to people because you are protecting your self from having to feel the pain of rejection.

You have felt that pain before and it is hurts deeply, way to painful at times for you to handle so your body will sometimes go on "auto-pilot" and ignore what you are saying to it because again, it is your body's way of protecting you from feeling that pain again.

Such a feelin's comin' over me
There is wonder in most everything I see
Not a cloud in the sky
Got the sun in my eyes
And I won't be surprised if it's a dream
You are not alone.
I have the same problems. I have been talking to a counselor for almost 2 years, and it has definitely helped. I'm not all better yet, but on my way. So that is my suggestion to you. Go talk to a counselor. If you already are than you need to get a new one. Good luck dear.
i have rejection issues also and it has kept me from making friends too..

i can make friends eventually but it takes a long time before i trust somebody...

therapy and meds might help you.
help u first. go out for walks to clear ur mind. then eat haelthy. get plenty of rest. if u need someone 2 vent to i am here dogmicjoe@yahoo.com. also i will be ur friend. for girls try looking up askmen.com, sosuave.com, becomeaplayer.com for advice. go to hi5.com to make buddies. nolongerlonely.com is for mentally ill ppl like myself
