Why dont social security clients w/drug addictions tested for drug/medication?

Answer:
I wish I knew! It's a mixed up system we have, where people who have real disabilities have to jump through hoops to qualify for help and addicts have assistance coming out the yin-yang. Drug testing is just another way for us (as a society) to be coerced into the politically correct mainstream, where we can be striped of our rights without even realizing it.

Addiction is a disability that can be reversed. An addict has a choice to remain an addict or to seek help, the catch is that addict has to want it! Someone whose spine has deteriorated due to severe arthritis, or has a mental disability can't just will themselves better. They require serious medical attention and some will remain incapacitated for life...due to no choice of their own.
What would the point be in drug testing social security clients with drug addictions?

If the client is disabled, he/she is disabled (whether AS an addict or as a person with major depression or as a person who is blind or deaf). Disability (hence eligibility/entitlement) status would not change whether they were "clean" or "sober".

"Drug testing" for SSDI/SSI recipients would accomplish 3 things (none of which are desirable)

1. For SSDI/SSI recipients who are receiving disaiblity based on an addiction, it would encourage them to CONTINUE to drink/drug (thus "proving" they are still disabled/entitled to benefits)

2. For SSDI/SSI recipients who are receiving benefits for reasons OTHER than addiction, it would necessitate trampling on their Consitutional rights to privacy.

3. For US Citizens, it adds to the already staggering amount of tax dollars going straight downt the toliet, and leaves nothing to show for it but yet another level of buerocratic madness and growing mounds of worthless paperwork.
